November 1986 VW Jetta 1.6 TX
5 speed manual, 4 door with manual glass sunroof.
92k miles, Weber carb with manual choke.
Small bumper model with quarterlight doors, and manual wing mirrors. Pre power steering and central locking.
Starts, runs, drives, and overall still relatively solid.
Seats are all original and still in good condition. The door cards have previously been replaced with later spec post ’88 items and are still in good condition. Headlining has been replaced at some point, and is starting to sag in places. Post ’88 US Spec steering wheel with boss adapter.
Later ’90 spec 3 slat front grill, but comes with the original 7 slat grill also.
Comes with: Replacement side sills and closing panels for both sides, 1/4 floor section for passenger side rear, wheel arch repair panels, complete 1.8 GL new and unused exhaust system, including rubbers and clamps, new replacement front discs and pads, new aftermarket ’90 indicator/washer stalks, new heater matrix.
Car was used daily prior to my purchase. I used it up until it’s next MOT some 6 months later and it was a joy to drive. The previous owner had put coilovers on it, and the 1.6 engine was still punchy enough to keep up with modern traffic. It failed the MOT for rusty side sills, on the passenger side rear. There is a rust formation and hole through from the rear door shut, that has rotted out the sill from the inside. The front door shut is starting to form the same rust spot underneath the door rubber.
The rear seat has been removed, and the car was checked over by a local body shop. I ordered the replacement parts, and it’s sat untouched for near on 2 years now. The car has 30 years of small dings and scratches, plus some vandalism to it from when it was stored at the body shop. There are small patches of surface rust forming on the tailgate and around the front windscreen, and there is a witness to a repair patch on the rear arch from inside the boot.
The car would benefit from a strip down and respray, knowing that a decent classic car would come back out of it. I’ve had and seen worse cars restored, and most of the kit to do that is included in the sale.
Grab yourself a piece of motoring history, before these are gone/or running 20vT’s. This is an unmolested Mk2 Jetta, that still includes all of it’s original registration marked glass…
Local collection only, and would need to be trailered away. Please see my other listings, thanks.
